POSITION PAPER ON QC ANTI-JUNK FOOD ORDINANCE

On 21 July 2017, the local Government of Quezon City published on a daily regarding an Ordinance banning food stores located a hundred meters from public or private schools (from pre-school to high school) from selling and/or promoting “junk foods and sugary drinks.” The Association itself received a soft copy of the local Ordinance only on 31 July.  As such, PAGASA wrote the City Mayor and primary sponsor of the Bill Councilor Irene R. Belmonte a Position Paper regarding this Prohibition and the fact that stakeholders were not invited to comment on the Bill.  Position Paper was submitted to the office of the good Councilor and received at 1:30pm on 16 August 2017 by her staff Ms. Rose Lapada.

PAGASA GENERAL MEETING FOR FIRST QUARTER OF 2021

On the eve of 3 February 2021, the Association held its virtual General Meeting for the first quarter of 2021. The Meet was sponsored by i-Ripple, enabler of My Suki which intends to have as its groceries providers the members of PAGASA. Online selling was a must-do proposition for supermarkets given the extended negative sales effect that the pandemic was wreaking on food retailers.

PINHOLES IN POWDERY PACKAGES AT A TIME OF COVID-19

A vigilant shopper sent this video to a social media platform and it went viral. Her observation that the health-hazardous puncturing of minute holes on powdery products packaged in plastic bags (like sugar, salt and the like) to let air out and make displays in supermarkets even and easier for stocking is very valid in view of the uncontained spread of COVID-19.  PAGASA members were advised to refrain from this practice.
